Maharata Cave is located by the Rezovska River, near the Turkey border. The closest village to the cave is Kosti (about 7.5 km.)
The transition to the cave is mountainous, passing through an extremely beautiful, oak forest.
Maharata Cave is of rare geological origin for the region. In 1973 it was declared a natural landmark.
The length of the Maharata is 244 meters, the displacement is – 23 meters and the altitude is 199 meters.
Relatively little is known about the cave. It is believed to have been an ancient Thracian sanctuary of the Mother Goddess, representing a system of underground galleries. Access to these galleries is impossible today due to the collapse of a rock mass. Аccessible is only the main gallery.
